Katniss + Peeta = KatPee
Hahahahaha!

If you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, these are the two main characters from the Hunger Games. They now have a super funny celebrity-style nickname thanks to me :) In hindsight, letting my 8-year-old daughter in on this joke was probably a bad idea considering she ran around yelling “KatPee” all weekend!

Oh well.

I read the books a few months ago, then saw the movie – and instantly fell in love with this series. I didn’t think it was appropriate for my munchkin though, so I wouldn’t let her in the club. She HATED that. This weekend I finally caved and let her watch the movie.. I thought the action “IN” the games would bother her, but she barely bat an eyelash. Which makes me scared for the children of our society… when people being stabbed and having their necks snapped doesn’t phase a second grader.

Anyway.

SHE LOVED IT!!!! Loved it. Would not shut the fuck up about the movie. Then I said KatPee… then she wouldn’t shut up about that either. So now we have this cute inside joke, and a shared love for this movie. However she started asking a million questions that I couldn’t answer without literally delivering the entire series storyline to her… so I got to thinkin: Why can’t she read the books too?

Of course I need to go back and re-read them with her in mind, I don’t remember what kind of details are in the book that the movie breezed over… so we’re starting that process today. I read the first 30 pages and cleared them for her to read. I can’t wait to pick her up today and see what she thinks of Chapter 1 so far :) I figure that when we come to parts in the book that are either too mature for her or above her level of understanding – we will save those pages to read at home together. I’m really looking forward to this!

Being able to share things that I love with little J is so profoundly awesome to me. The older she gets, the more I enjoy being her mother!
